SUMMARY:The Gaudete Singers\, St Philip's Church
DESCRIPTION:Postcard from Abroad\nThe Gaudete Singers Summer Concert\nDirected by David Leigh\nTales of Travel \nWe are off on our travels again and The Gaudete Singers are delighted to bring you our summer concert. This year it’s more about the journey than the destination as we take a train and a boat or two\, and we follow the sun with the Beatles. Our programme is an eclectic mix of secular music and we hope you enjoy what we’ve chosen. \nWe move in time from the sixteenth century to the twentieth century and through a huge range of musical styles – from an Italian madrigal written by a Frenchman to a Beach Boys song arranged by Ben Barnes\, a good friend and former member of the choir. We travel from Botany Bay via the tropics to the north of England\, arriving at home sweet home. \nThis will be interspersed with some suitably eclectic organ music played by David Leigh. \nWe are performing in a new venue this summer in St Philip’s Church in Dartry and are delighted to be in this beautiful building. Our thanks go to Canon Sonia Gyles and all at St Philips for making us feel so welcome. \nProgramme: \nItalia Mia – Philippe Verdalot (c.1480 – c.1540)\nUn giorno mi prego – Adrian Willaert (c. 1490 – 1562)\nCargoes – Henry Balfour Gardiner (1877 – 1950)\nAbschied vom Walde – Felix Mendelssohn (1809 – 1847) \nThe Oak and the Ash – Traditional English Air arranged by Gordon Langford (1930 – 2017)\nBotany Bay – Traditional Australian Song arranged by Robert Rice\nO Waly Waly – English Folk Song arranged by Dorene Groocock \nI’ll Follow the Sun – John Lennon (1940 – 1980) and Paul McCartney (1942 -)\narranged by Charles John Grayston Ives (Bill Ives 1948 -)\nI’m a Train – Albert Hammond (1944 -) and Mike Hazelwood (1941 – 2001) arranged by Peter Knight (1917 – 1985)\nHome Sweet Home – Henry Bishop (1787 – 1856) Lyrics by John Howard Payne (1791 – 1852)\, harmonized by T Crampton\nI Get Around – The Beach Boys\, Brian Wilson (1942 -) and Mike Love (1941-) arranged by Ben Barnes \nPut the date in your diary for 9th June and we hope you’ll come with us on our journey.\nTickets available on the door: €20\, conc. €15\, students €5.Payment by cash or card and including a glass of wine or soft drink after the concert
