Sandmill Strollers meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 1.30 pm on Temple Road and we usually walk for about two hours and plan to return to Temple Road by 4.30 pm. Everyone is welcome to join us. In January our walk will be along the Dodder heading towards its confluence with the River Liffey.
In September we walked around the reservoir at Bohernabreena, then along the Dublin Mountain Way for a welcome cup of coffee at Kiltipper.
Then in October we travelled by LUAS to its terminus at Bride’s Glen, then walked back towards Dublin following the line of the railway tracks. There was a charming walk along the river running through Glen Druid and through lands soon to be build upon before visiting the historical sites at Tully and Lahaughanstown. The old church at Tully dates from the 12th century and close by are two crosses; one is in a field on the opposite side of the road from Tully Old Graveyard and one is a tall narrow cross with a bishop on one face and a head on the other, which is where we posed for a photograph.
November saw us climbing Three Rock Mountain from Barnacullia (the Blue Light Pub) along small tracks and scrambling up a rocky path. This route offers wonderful views across Dublin Bay and beyond. The walk ended with a coffee stop at the Blue Light, which is like a step back in time.
Hope to see you all in 2016 as we try to maintain some type of outdoor activities during the winter months.
