Sandmillers

We had planned to kick off the New Year with a timely talk on re-using and recycling but unfortunately our guest speaker, like many others, succumbed to the flu. So at very short notice Claire Devlin, Lecturer at the Dublin School of Business, filled in with a very interesting and wide-ranging discourse on business and ethics. We fielded all the ‘isn’t that a bit of an oxymoron?’ comments and had a very good morning, even if it wasn’t exactly as people had anticipated.

Sandmillers is twenty-five years in existence this year, having been set up by Gladys and Dermot James in 1992. For the past fourteen years there has been a ‘Christmas’ lunch and the most recent seven have been held at the Royal St George Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire in February! On Thursday 9 February some thirty-five members and guests enjoyed a drinks reception, a delicious lunch and a good chat. Many thanks to Ian and Dot Roberts for hosting this event and to Ralph McGuckin for his speech and impressive table plan and name cards. By the time you read this hopefully we will have enjoyed a tour of the Aviva Stadium and lunch afterwards at the Sandymount Hotel.

There will be no Sandmillers event in April as the second Wednesday falls during Holy Week.
