Music plays a central role in the liturgy of the Church of Ireland, and the parishes of Sandford and St Philip’s have a long history of high quality music-making. The parishes have established a new Choral Union to which there has been a fantastic response from parishioners and local people, and we are looking forward to a very exciting first year for this new choral group. Our first event will be singing for the Advent Carol Service on Sunday 3 December in St Philip’s, followed by the Christmas Carol Singalong concert in St Philip’s on Thursday 14 December and the parish Carol Service in Sandford on Sunday 17 December.
This new departure aims to build on the present joint parish choir and also create an opportunity for those who do not attend church regularly to participate in the musical life of the parishes.
The Choral Union is open to anyone -parishioners, school parents, the local community – who might wish to participate in choral singing and improve their musicianship in doing so. This group will provide music for the main joint parish services during the year as well as functioning as an educational and social group.
Rehearsals take place every Wednesday between September and May (except during school holidays) in Sandford Parish Church commencing at 7 pm. If you are interested in joining this exciting venture, please contact David O’Shea doshea3@gmail.com for more information.
