Confirmation

On a glorious hot sunny Saturday in April (21st), twenty young people were confirmed by the Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Michael Jackson. Those confirmed: From Sandford and St Philip’s: Emma Bagnall, Katya Bailey, Sam Berman, Niamh Best, Sam Cooke, Andrew Fraser, Sam Hodgess, Rupert Hurley, Oscar Hurley, Sophie Langford, Keeva Mallin, Andrew Miller, Nick Power Smith and Ben Walker. From Alexandra College: Sophie Buckley, Sophie MacGinley Darley, Amy McCracken, Ella Nethercott, Alice Power Smith and Rachel Reid.

Service led by Confirmation Group
On Sunday 13 May the students from this year’s confirmation class delivered the Sunday service.
Together we chose the themes: homelessness and helping those in need. We decided on these themes because homelessness is one of the greatest issues facing Irish society today and helping those in need is something that everybody can do.

We met a number of times after our confirmation on 21 April and worked together to decide on readings, prayers and hymns that supported the two themes. We chose a Michael Jackson song, ‘Man in the Mirror’ because the lyrics illustrated the themes perfectly.

Everybody contributed and took on roles in the service. Some researched the topics and shared their thoughts with everybody during the service. Others read, performed or collected money for St Vincent de Paul and Focus Ireland, charities working to help those in need and the homeless.

I lead the service, which was easier than I thought because everyone played their part.
