Garden Gang restarted on Saturday 7 September – one of those stunningly warm and sunny autumnal days! We were all delighted to come back and see what bounty of vegetables, fruit and flowers were waiting for us. We had some wins and some losses. Our cauliflowers got some sort of fungus and about 5 tomatoes grew. On the positive side we had a decent crop of delicious potatoes, amazing kale and the greatest victory of all, flowers growing in the raised beds! Children returned for more digging and we also welcomed new children to the Gang.
One major development happened over the summer with the installation of an outside tap inside the allotments. This is a complete gamechanger for everyone in the allotments! Our deepest gratitude goes to Ian Bagnall, Glebe Warden and St Philip’s Select Vestry for giving it the go-ahead. Worth waiting for!
We were also very proud of raising just over €500 for the Alzheimers Society of Ireland when we opened up the allotments on Sunday 9 June as part of the Rathmines Open Garden Trail. For almost three hours we had visitors enthralled by all the allotments.
