The Rathmines Garden Trail this year included our allotments at St Philip’s for the first time. The prospect of close scrutiny from knowledgeable gardeners focused the minds of Garden Gangers and made us no less curious than our substantial number of visitors. Home-baked cakes and tarts, which were particularly luscious for this event were sold and tea served to all comers, with the proceeds going to the Irish Heart Foundation. The rain held off until five o’clock, just as the last of ours visitors were leaving, whereupon the Garden Gang crew collectively experienced a distinct sense of wonder and satisfaction. The vegetables, shrubs and fruit were at their best and gloriously indifferent to all the attention.
