On Saturday 21 May, the Rector and Parish Development Committee invited the children and parents of the parishes to St Philip’s hall and grounds for a special afternoon to celebrate World Bee Day. We started with a nature hunt around the grounds. It was a lovely sunny afternoon and everybody enjoyed finding all sorts of things hidden in nature.
After the hunt we all moved into the hall where a cinema had been set up for a screening of The Bee Movie. There were many cakes and sweets eaten, along with popcorn and fruit squash! At the end of the movie each child departed with a wonderful goody bag with honey, jam, chocolate and wildflower seeds.
The afternoon turned out to be a fantastic opportunity for the children to get together after 2 years where socialising has been restricted. Like the children, their parents enjoyed chatting over a cup of tea in the knowledge that everybody under the age of 10 was engrossed in the cinema! Thank you to everybody involved in the organisation of this event; it is afternoons like these that make Sandford and St Philips such a vibrant community to be a member of. Kate Lyons
