Music Matters

Choral Union
Rehearsals have now finished for the summer. After two very successful performances of Stainer’s Crucifixion in Holy Week, we began learning Fauré’s Requiem for a performance later in the year. Some members of the choir will be participating in a performance of this piece in St Patrick’s Cathedral on 21 June as part of the Pipeworks organ and choral festival. If you would like to get involved in the choir in the autumn, please contact David O’Shea. (doshea3@gmail.com).

Choral Scholars
This term the Choral Scholars have begun learning music from Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas. Some members are preparing to sit ABRSM singing grade exams in the coming weeks, and we wish them the best of luck with their exams. There are limited places available for one or two new members for next year, aged 14 upwards. Please contact David O’Shea (doshea3@gmail.com) for more information.

Organ Scholar
Jack Doherty, our Organ Scholar, has recently completed Year 2 of the Archbishop of Dublin’s Certificate in Church Music. In addition to taking weekly lessons at Sandford Church and working with the Choral Scholars he has undertaken some work experience in Monkstown Parish as part of the course. He recently won a scholarship at Trinity College (where he is studying for a degree in music and maths) to undertake a summer research project.
