Daffodil Day Coffee Morning

On a very sunny 20 March, Daffodil Day, a coffee morning was held in front of Sandford Church in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Often this annual event requires scarves and hats if outdoors, but not this year! It was almost like a summer’s day when we gathered for cups of tea and coffee and, as always, delicious treats. Bunches of daffodils on every table just added to the warm, welcoming atmosphere. It looked so picturesque when I arrived – little tables and chairs to sit at, and smiling faces ready for chats. The €1,100 raised on the day pays for expert cancer nurses, ground-breaking cancer researchers, and a range of vital services to help people navigate cancer. I know that when my sister was having cancer treatment, the volunteer drivers were wonderful, taxi-ing her up and down from Kildare to her appointments in Dublin. Eventually, in her final days at home, the nurses were like angels who arrived to reassure us, care for us and her, and give us a half hour to get outside and get a break. Personally, I think it’s a very worthy cause and was delighted to show my support on the day. Well done to all involved – let’s hope for sunshine again next year! Kate Carberry
