Nine young people from Sandford and St Philip’s Milltown were confirmed at Christ Church Cathedral Dublin on Sunday 22 May by the Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Reverend Dr Michael Jackson. This was the culmination of three months instruction of the candidates by the Revd Canon Sonia Gyles, which took place on Wednesday evenings commencing in February and included participation in Sunday services at Sandford Church and at St Philip’s Church, attendance at Choral Compline during Lent and an opportunity to volunteer at the St Philip’s Spring Bazaar.
Family and friends attended at Christ Church Cathedral and candidates from Killiney and Ballybrack, Leixlip Union, Rathfarnham, Whitechurch and Celbridge & Straffan with Newcastle-Lyons joined the young people from our parishes for this very special event. The address was given by the Archbishop and he stressed the importance of Friendship, Family, Faith and Forward Progression in all our lives.
Those confirmed received a Prayer Journal written by the Most Revd and Rt Hon Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, designed to help them join in with ten days of global prayer from 26 May to 5 June 2022.
On Sunday 29 May, this group of 9 young people, Alex, Matthew, Eoin, Lucia, Millie, Catherine, April, Evan and Ivar led a special service at Sandford Church. They had been involved in planning this service for a number of weeks, choosing the theme, music, prayers, and a nominated charity. We pray every blessing for them as they continue on their journey of faith. Mary Goodall Turner
