It is all action in St Philip’s allotments, and with the Garden Gang in particular, as we prepare for the Rathmines Open Garden Trail on Sunday 12 June (2pm – 6pm). We were invited to be participants in June 2019 and it was a spectacular success then as lots of people visited the allotments before visiting the many other open gardens on the trail. At the time of writing the charity that we will be fundraising for has not been decided. Everyone is welcome – there will be refreshments too!
Since late March, we have been digging and weeding to get the allotment into shape! So far we have pumpkins, tomatoes, potatoes, onions and red cabbage planted. We have also received some wonderful donations of gooseberry bushes and red currant bushes – many thanks!
The Garden Gang normally meets on Saturdays from 3.30pm to 5pm at the allotments beside St Philip’s Church. It is for the primary school aged children of the grouped parishes. It is free to join with a donation of €10 per family to buy seeds and plants. Helen O’Kelly
